Te soli su od izuzetne važnosti u industrijskoj primjeni. Natrijev karbonat bezvodni -Na2CO3, soda bez vode, soda- je higroskopan, a stajanjem na zraku reagira s CO2 i H2O stvarajući NaHCO3.
